PRACTICE:
Bob is a corporate generalist with a mixed law and business background who approaches legal issues from a business person’s perspective and tries to follow the Pareto rule—roughly 80% of the value is usually in getting the critical 20% correct. Be efficient. |
Bob has been around M&A work on all sides (business/strategic analysis on the buy and sell sides, lots of due diligence, deal attorney), and has a General Counsel’s diverse expertise and ability to counsel and advise businesses on the wide scope of issues that they typically face, including deal-making, employee issues, acquisitions, disputes and risk management.
He prides himself particularly on his ability to negotiate and paper complicated deals quickly, thoroughly and effectively.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior to joining LANCASTER | HELLING, Bob was in private practice, representing (among other companies) AT&T Wi-Fi Services (formerly Wayport, Inc.), the nation’s largest provider of Wireless internet access at hotels, hospitals, McDonald’s and other retail locations. Bob was previously Wayport’s Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to joining Wayport, he was a co-founder, CFO and General Counsel of SiteStuff, Inc., a venture backed e-commerce company in Austin, TX. Before that, he was an engagement manager at the global management consultancy McKinsey and Company. He also practiced corporate and securities law with Porter and Hedges and with Locke Lord Bissell and Liddell (Liddell Sapp when he was there) in Houston, Texas. |
EDUCATION AND ADMISSIONS: Bob earned an A.B., magna cum laude, from Duke University, and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Travis County Bar Association. |
ACTIVITIES:
An aspiring fiction writer, Bob can be found running slowly and not too far on the dirt roads of Caldwell County with his Catahoula, Buck, and sometimes being followed by a variety of other dogs, cows or donkeys. Seriously. He enjoys hiking and those rare visits to Italy with his wife.
