PRACTICE
Liz has worked in-house as corporate counsel for a variety of technology companies in Austin, with responsibilities focused on:
  • software and hardware sales and licensing
  • drafting and negotiation of master license and services agreements
  • drafting and negotiation of strategic partnerships and alliances, including reseller, OEM, data processing, joint development, co-location, and business continuity services
  • technology and professional services acquisition for financial institutions
  • entertainment software development and distribution
  • employment matters, including drafting and reviewing employee handbooks, internal investigation of EEO complaints, and providing EEO-related training to employees and management
  • privacy and information security compliance for technology service providers to financial institutions
  • office and equipment leases
  • other transactional matters
EXPERIENCE:
Prior to joining LANCASTER | HELLING, Liz served as Corporate Counsel for SigmaTel, Inc., Crossroads Systems, Inc., and S1 Corporation, a publicly held company with headquarters in Atlanta. After leaving S1, Liz joined the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to focus on state acquisitions of custom software and related consulting services and employment matters. Liz opened her own office providing legal services to a variety of software and technology clients in 2004.
EDUCATION:
Liz received her B.A. with departmental honors from Vassar College in 1990. In 1995 she graduated from the University of Texas Joint Degree Program with a J.D. and a Master’s in Public Affairs. During graduate school Liz served as Managing Editor of the Texas Environmental Law Journal.
ACTIVITIES AND AWARDS:
Liz is admitted to practice law in Texas and is a member of the Texas and Austin Bar Associations. While at the University of Texas, Liz was a founding member of the Tibetan Resettlement Project – Austin, coordinating services and volunteers to assist the resettlement of 20 Tibetan refugees in the Austin area. Liz enjoys participating in her local community, recently serving as a board member for the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Association.
